Yesterday, the New York State Commission on Sentencing Reform issued a long-awaited report following a full review of the State’s sentencing structure and practices. The report makes recommendations for reform to all three branches of government; in particular, it addresses drug penalty laws, suggesting creating more uniform sentencing guidelines and allowing judges to send more drug offenders to treatment centers instead of prison.
