In the recently published article, "Exploring the Role of the Police in Prisoner Reentry," Jeremy Travis, Ronald Davis, and Sarah Lawrence give a thoughtful answer to the question, "Why should the police care about prisoner reentry?" In doing so, the authors offer two primary reasons as to why police departments should be active participants in reentry initiatives: " It could promote public safety and enhance police effectiveness by engagement in problem-oriented policing activities, and. . .promote police legitimacy by strengthening relationships with communities. . .through engagement in community policing activities.
